Briefed to create packaging for any sports brand, I set off to research the sport as well as the leading brands. I stumbled upon the story of astronaut Alan Shepherd’s attempt at playing golf on the moon. He brought a six iron head (attached to a shaft used for rock collecting) and some golf balls with him as his personal items for the Apollo 14 launch. Once on the moon, he dropped three balls in front of him and proceeded to hit two of them. While Shepherd never unveiled the brand of the golf balls, speculations leans towards them being of the Titleist brand.

The packaging was created to honor this historic event, and at the same time create a concept for future Titleist packaging. I wanted the base to be extremely sturdy and durable, so I welded together a structure out of steel. To create a nice contrast, and make it more user friendly — I used paper rolls that each fit three golf balls snugly, with no need of adding any adhesive. The base was given four branches at the middle to connect the rolls to through small holes at the back. This made it possible to reattach or refill the base with more golf balls.

The look is inspired by a mix of grainy black and white photography as well as space landing craft and rovers. All photography, craft and graphics was done by me.
