Nepolnota is a Russian Caviar brand that I created, which means “irregularity” in Russian, which was inspired by Japanese aesthetic principles. It is a interpretation to the Russian literary critic, Vladimir Kornivol, and his poem “25 Music for Oneself”. Vladimir talks about purity, modesty and clarity in his poem, which inspired me to use the Wabi–Sabi aesthetic principles. These concepts are expressed in a plain, simple and natural manner using asymmetry and irregularity. In Wabi–Sabi brush paintings, they are often drawn as an incomplete circles, symbolizing the imperfection that is part of existence. In graphic design, asymmetrical balance is a dynamic and beautiful thing, as well. Nature itself is
full of beautiful and harmonious relationships that are asymmetrical yet balanced. This is
a dynamic beauty that attracts and engages. The packaging of my product represents these ideas and becomes a visual translation of it. The name, “Nepolnota” comes from
this philosophy. It means “irregularity”in Russian and “Fukinsei” in Japanese. Some of my previous explorations speak to this idea of irregularity. I won’t use every single visual, but
I created enough to produce a visual system for my fictitious brand. The visuals represent irregular ocean waves in an elegant and simplistic way, using the concept of nature containing beauty in it’s imperfections.
