This is a prototype for a kit aiming to simplify the confusing process of mixing your own black and white darkroom chemicals, where design follows function. The bottles have the appropriate amount of dry/wet concentrate chemicals that corresponds with the Liter sized bottles, so all you have to do is add water, shake the bottle, and let the chemicals dissolve. I used this idea of simplifying as a guide for the design, so I kept everything as simple and clear as possible. The line graphics on the bottles represent each stage in the process of developing film. This is a prototype for an actual product: the chipboard structure would instead be a durable plastic intended for continual use, as well as the text on the bottle would be printed directly onto the bottles in a durable ink also intended for continual use. Another aim for this project was to eliminate packaging waste in the darkroom by creating purposeful and reusable packaging. You would also be able to order the premeasured dry/wet chemicals to refill the bottles once the mixtures go bad, in repurposable packaging that turns into tongs and funnels for use in the developing process.
To simplify the process of measuring out chemicals for development, alongside the traditonal oz. measurements are measurements of the amount per roll needed to develop the film.
Included on each bottle is a place to mark the date mixed so you would know based on the life of each chemicals, when you would need to mix a new batch.
