For Mexican Chocolate Stout, Copper Kettle Brewing found inspiration in a 500 year old Aztec recipe for Mexican hot chocolate. The foil labels are printed with a copper ink and feature a custom Aztec cacao God.
Copper Kettle Brewing Company opened in 2011 in a suburb of Denver as a local, neighborhood brewery. Within their first year, they won a gold medal at GABF in the Herb & Spice beer category with their Mexican Chocolate Stout. They quickly grew and started packaging their beers. Emrich Office was hired to improve their identity and develop a packaging design for Mexican Chocolate Stout.
“For the logo, we made the Kettle icon more recognizable, improved the readability of the logotype, and simplified the colors. We also added some secondary marks that can be used on promotional items. The use of metallic copper was an easy decision but required some attention to detail during the production process to achieve a strong, reflective copper sheen. For Mexican Chocolate stout, we researched the ancient civilizations of Mexico and their use of Cacao as a drink and in religion. The label design includes a blend of imagery and motifs from the Toltec, Aztec and Mayan cultures.” — Emrich Office
