The industrialization of the food system, in the last century, led to the disappearance of the majority of fruits and vegetables varieties. They simply did not meet the needed characteristics for this new food environment. With the challenges ahead, including climate change, putting all of our eggs in one basket is probably not an excellent idea. Food biodiversity is a guarantee of safety.
This project by Bernard Lavallée, le nutritionniste urbain, and the artisanal seed company Terre Promise, both based in Montreal, Canada, aims to make these almost extinct varieties accessible to amateur gardeners, making it possible for them to discover these heirloom flavors.
