D’Italia Foods came to Fresco to design a packaging solution for their imported Italian Nougat (Torrone) after retailers were reluctant to stock the product in it’s traditional packaging. After researching, we distilled our findings into a sophisticated, hand-drawn, quintessentially Italian logo and paired it with an eye-catching, contemporary box design — a far cry form the traditional, ornate box it appears in, in Italy – and better suited to the Australian deli market. Kiarella Nougat is handmade in Calabria, Italy and is available in premium delis and fine food stores. The nougat, contained within a sealed clear packet, would sit inside a box with two ‘wings’ that fold up to meet in the centre, forming the lid. The ‘wings’ open to reveal two smaller drummers (previously hidden) which adds theatre to the packaging. The retailer has the option of being able to keep one open in their display, showcasing the product but are also able to stack the closed packages neatly for compact storage. Whilst the box design is generic, stickers are added in English to indicate flavours. We have also developed designs for their 50g Bars, 150g Logs, nutritional stickers and various POS solutions – as well as the logo for their mother brand, D’Italia Foods.
