Description:

The Peranakan culture is a rich hybrid of Chinese-Malay ethnic traditions with a touch of Portuguese, Dutch and Indonesian influences, the Peranakan (meaning ‘locally born’ in Malay) culture refers to men as ‘baba’ and women as ‘nonya’. They are most famous for their imaginative and creative cuisine which is infused with delicate flavors. Peranakan or “Nonya” food is a blend of Chinese and Malay culinary traditions made with a range of indigenous herbs and spices.

The idea for the board game is to use kueh as the main theme to promote Melaka’s shrinking street vendors scene. For example, the Jonker Walk night market is located in the Chinatown area of Malacca City. The street in the area is filled with historical houses along its left and right sides dating back to the 17th century, many of which are shops selling antiques, textiles, foods, handicrafts, and souvenirs such as keychains and shirts.

Pulling inspiration for graphic elements from Peranakan culture – traditions, clothing, buildings, and more. Floral motifs that are intricate, ornate, and decorative which symbolize blessings of peace, harmony, prosperity and longevity, marital bliss, fertility, and filial piety. The game focuses on a bit of dexterity skill while still being fast-paced, easy to learn and understand, as well as equal opportunity for old and new players. As the game goal is to just act as a beginner stepping stone to spark interest in players about the culture itself. Being fun and exciting, nothing too big from its core.
